Terms of Use
Last updated: 30 May 2026
These terms govern your use of the Tautoru website at tautoru.ai, including the Whakatere guide to AI tools. The site is operated by Tautoru AI Limited, a New Zealand company. By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
What Tautoru is
Tautoru is a platform for navigating complex decisions. Its first module, Whakatere, is a independent, sourced guide to the AI tools available today and to what is and is not safe to put into them. The site provides general information, and a waitlist signup for updates.
Not legal advice
Whakatere is guidance on the use of AI tools. It is not legal advice, and nothing on this site is legal advice or any other regulated advice. Using the site does not create a lawyer–client relationship or any other professional relationship. We describe what tools, providers, regulators and courts have said; what you do in your own situation is a matter for you and your own qualified advisers, on your own facts.
You draw your own conclusions
The guide is descriptive by design. Our matrix and profiles summarise sourced material and link to it; the conclusions you draw, and any decisions you make about your own information or tools, are your own. You should verify anything that matters against the primary sources we cite before relying on it.
Accuracy and currency
We take care to be accurate, we cite primary sources, and we date what we publish. But this is a fast-moving field: providers change their terms, and the law develops. Information on the site may become out of date between reviews, and is provided on an “as is” basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the extent permitted by law. The “last reviewed” date on a page tells you when it was last checked.
Third-party tools, links and sources
The guide names and links to third-party tools, their terms, and other external sources. We do not control those products or websites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or data practices. Naming or describing a tool is not an endorsement, and a tool’s absence is not a criticism. We take no money from any vendor we cover.
Intellectual property
Tautoru and Whakatere are te reo Māori words, and we do not claim to own them. We use them, and our logo, as the names and branding for the services we provide, and we ask that you do not use them in a way that suggests we endorse, or are connected with, you. The original material we create for this site — the data-handling matrix, the written profiles, and the site’s text and design — is our copyright. You may read, link to, and quote reasonable extracts with attribution for personal, non-commercial use; please do not copy, scrape, republish, or build a competing product from that material in substantial part without our written permission. Material we cite from others — providers’ terms, legislation, and court and regulator guidance — belongs to its respective owners.
Acceptable use
Please use the site lawfully and reasonably. Do not attempt to disrupt or compromise it, harvest data from it by automated means at scale, or use it in any way that breaches these terms or the law.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tautoru AI Limited is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or its content. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 that cannot lawfully be excluded.
If we get something wrong
We correct errors openly. If you think something on the site is wrong, email contact@tautoru.ai. We check it against the same sourcing standard we hold ourselves to, and if we are wrong we fix it and note the change.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always at tautoru.ai/terms, with the “last updated” date above. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms, and any dispute arising from your use of the site, are governed by New Zealand law. You submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts. We will try to resolve any concern informally first — please email us and we will do our best to sort it out.
